2010 Hamilton Cellars "Bona Vita" Bordeaux Red Blend 750 mL

2010 was the coolest vintage on record. The weather created a lot of challenges for most winemakers. Thankfully our winemaker, Charlie Hoppes, has the experience to not only meet those challenges but actually use them to make exceptional wine. Wine grapes in Washington state are usually allowed to hang until the sugars are pretty high, resulting in brix in excess of 24. In 2010 Charlie felt the fruit was extremely balanced between the sugar and acid at a much lower than normal brix. Because of this Charlie chose to pick the fruit earlier than most winemakers and he missed the unusually high amount of rain that caused the hanging fruit to rot and mildew. Charlie feels the 2010 vintage will end up being a superior vintage and, because of the low sugars, will end up aging for a very long time.
